According to Kawu Sumaila, the New Nigeria Peoples Party's (NNPP) senatorial candidate for Kano South, at least one person was killed and another was hurt when thugs assaulted the collation center in Kano state's Takai local government area. He said this in  response to the results of the Kano South senatorial zone's tabulated votes, which put him in the lead,  during an urgent press conference on Sunday in Kano.

He also went on accusing Kabiru Gaya, a candidate for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), with planning the violent attacks that destroyed the collation center.
He further said that information reaching him had indicated that a similar incident was being prepared for the Rano local government district to disrupt collation of the results of the election. The security agencies did their utmost to overcome the difficulties, but as of today, the reports that have reached us are not encouraging.

"Our rivals, the APC, are preparing to strike several data centers. We gave security agencies access to this data. Unfortunate events led to an attack on one of the Takai local government's collation centers today at or around 10:00am. With weapons in hand, some criminals attempted to obstruct the collation process.

They shot at several of our supporters who were there waiting to see the results announced, beating up some officials at the collation center. Regrettably, one is dead and the other is currently being treated in a hospital, he said. The incident was confirmed by the Kano Police Public Relations Officer SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, who also noted that voting materials had been removed and arrests had been made.

Some miscreants tried to set the place on fire, but the fire was put out and all the election supplies were evacuated. Furthermore, he added, "three people have been arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
