In the midst of the economic downturn, Ghanaian actor and politician John Dumelo has expressed his displeasure with Ghana's 66th Independence Day Celebration.
According to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2020 parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, the current state of the country does not make it appropriate to commemorate such an event.
On Monday, March 1, 2023, he tweeted this. The actor has since urged President Nana Akufo-Addo to cancel the event planned to commemorate Ghana's independence day.He added that canceling the celebrations and instead commemorating the day with a televised address from the President will help the country save money.
"Greetings, @NAkufoAddo, we are in difficult times; could you please cancel all state, regional, and district Independence Day celebrations? You can do your usual 'fellow Ghanaians' television broadcast. We will save millions of cedis as a result of this. "Thank you so much," he said.Ghana's 66th Independence Day will be celebrated on Monday, March 6, 2023.
The celebration, with the theme "Our Unity; Our Strength; Our Purpose," would be attended by thousands of people from all over the country and the world. The day will be marked by national and regional activities, including the main ceremony, which will take place in Ho, the Volta Regional capital.During the event's launch, Lord Commey, Chairman of the National Planning Committee, announced that Guinea-President, Bissau's Umaro Sissoco Embaló, would be the parade's special guest of honor.
President Akufo-Addo, along with other dignitaries, is expected to attend the event and deliver an address.
