WHSmith stated that it was the victim of a cyber attack in which hackers gained access to company data, including the personal information of current and former employees. It stated that the hack had no effect on its trading activities and that its website, customer accounts, and customer databases were all hosted on unaffected separate systems. We immediately launched an investigation, engaged specialist support services, and implemented our incident response plans, which included notifying the relevant authorities," WH Smith said. "WH Smith takes cyber security extremely seriously, and investigations into the incident are ongoing," it added. "We have notified all affected colleagues and have put support measures in place." It comes amid a wave of cyber attacks in recent months, with Royal Mail's international postal service suffering lengthy disruption after hackers targeted the group. JD Sports also warned in January that a hack may have stolen around 10 million people's addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses, among other things.
