La Liga is about to launch La Liga Grassroots in Ghana, a program that will provide opportunities for football talent from across the country to advance in their careers.
Ghana is blessed with a plethora of football talents, and this project will identify them through the use of scouts.Officials from La Liga Ghana and Nigeria met with Ghanaian journalists in Accra on Wednesday to discuss the grassroots initiative.The Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports were among the key stakeholders with whom the La Liga team met."We thought of this stuff in Nigeria and other parts of Africa, but we are keen to actually start with Ghana because Ghana is a very important country to LaLiga and the LaLiga projects," said Ayodeji Adegbenro, La Liga Grassroots concept, Communications and Projects Coordinator."We've had the project in South Africa, Zambia, Nigeria, and Cameroon. We don't yet have Ghana, but hopefully it will appear very soon. LaLiga Egalite in Cameroon is an example of one of our projects. It is essentially a girls' youth league that began about two years ago. "We train grassroots female coaches to train these girls," says the organization.
"We've met with the GFA and the Sports Ministry, and we're hoping to replicate some of these projects in Ghana to help with grassroots football development."Desmond Chiji, La Liga Global Network Delegate for Ghana and Nigeria, also stated that this is an interesting initiative and urged all stakeholders to participate."The grassroots project is a major undertaking for us. We have a strong belief in it as the next stage of our development. We'd like to go into the cities and look for young talent to give them this opportunity. This is something that has been tried in other countries, and we believe it is the next step in our development. It is an exciting project for us, the stakeholders, and potential partners to be a part of."
