A 35-year-old man who reportedly sexually abused his 15-year-old daughter and believes the crime is "tradition" has been brought before a Gender Based Violence Court at the Accra Police Headquarters. Bless Gatogo has been charged with incest and defilement after allegedly abusing his daughter three times in Okushiebiade, near Amasaman at the Greater Accra Region. The accused has disputed the allegations. The court, presided over by Dora Eshun, granted Gatogo bail in the amount of GH20,000 with two sureties to be known to the Police.
The case has been delayed until March 27 for a case management meeting. According to Chief Inspector Simon Tekpor, the victim was a 15-year-old JHS two student, and the accused was a mason and the boy's biological father. According to the prosecution, the victim lived with the accused and her stepmother, and in 2022, the victim's stepmother left for a funeral, leaving the accused and the girl alone in the house. The next day, about 0500 hours, while the accused person and the victim were alone in a room, the accused person reportedly ordered the victim to strip with a cane. The prosecution said out of fear, the victim obliged, and the accused person forcibly had sexual intercourse with her on a blanket spread on the floor, allegedly.
