Renovation
The Tema Sports Stadium, which serves as the home ground for clubs such as Tema Youth in the lower tier leagues, is currently in disrepair and would benefit from an upgrade. The facility is in such disrepair that it endangers human lives.The plastic seats on the only available spectator stand were ripped off, and the concrete slabs that held the seats were destroyed. During a visit to the facility yesterday, a canopy that provides shade was also dangling dangerously.According to the paper, the renovation was carried out by the Ghana Football Association as part of a FIFA-sponsored project and was later handed over to the National Sports Authority (NSA) following the tournament.
During the tour, it was also discovered that parts of the stadium's walls had cracked, exposing iron rods in some places, and that the metal gates surrounding the stadium were extremely rusted. The toilet facilities have also failed.
Outside the football field, overgrown weeds covered the majority of the landscape.The surrounding bushes have been cleared and burned in preparation for the Greater Accra Regional Parade of Ghana's 66th Independence Day commemoration on Monday.
Yohane Amarh Ashitey, Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tema, told the Daily Graphic that the Tema Metropolitan Assembly had to intervene to ensure that the facility was ready to host the rest of the region.
