The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a man for murdering his girlfriend, according to reports from Nigeria. DSP Muhammad Jalige, the command's spokesperson, said in a statement on Monday, April 24, 2023, that the arrest was made because the suspect was about to be lynched by a crowd. According to Jalige, on April 23, the Command received a distress call about a mob activity at the NEPA Roundabout in the city of Kaduna, where an unruly crowd was about to lynch a man. There was an immediate mobilization of operators to the scene. He stated, "Upon arriving, they met the suspect lying unconscious and surrounded by a crowd."
Jalige claims that the information gathered showed that the suspect used a machete to attack his girlfriend at Old Command Secondary and Nursery School, Sokoto Road, Kaduna, and injured her face, arms, and hands in a variety of ways. He explained that the man completely severed her left hand during the attack, claiming that she wanted to dump him for another man and that he had spent a lot of resources and all of his savings on her. A doctor on duty at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital confirmed the victim's death after she was rushed there for treatment. Jalige stated, "The lady's corpse has been deposited at the same hospital, for an autopsy."
