Mahama Aminat, also known as Akosua Serwaa Minat, is a young woman who has been arrested for reportedly threatening President John Dramani Mahama in widely shared social media videos.
The Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) of the Inspector General of Police, working with the National Operations Department's Surveillance Unit, made the arrest.
The suspect was apprehended on Thursday, May 21, 2026, according to a police statement, after videos of her allegedly making derogatory comments against the President and threatening his life went viral on TikTok.
According to the announcement, "Mahama Aminat, also known as Akosua Serwaa Minat, has been arrested by the IGP's Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) for offensive conduct and issuing threats against the President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama in videos circulated on social media."
The films, according to the authorities, also included provocative remarks directed at the president and his spouse.
The statement went on, "She was inciting others to harm both the President and his wife and threatening the President's life."
After the recordings went viral, the police conducted an operation that resulted in the suspect's arrest on May 20, 2026, at Sekyere Zongo in the Ashanti Region's Sekyere Kumawu District.
The statement outlining the reason for the arrest stated, "The suspect was captured in some videos posted on TikTok making insulting remarks about the President."
The operation was carried out a day after intelligence was obtained on May 19, 2026, according to the police.
