Baba Ijesha had a penchant for entertainment since he was a child. He used to entertain his friends and classmates in primary school. His father, a local champion comic and joke cracker, had a big influence on his sense of humor. When he relocated to Lagos in 1985, he began his professional acting career. Although he began his playing career on a television soap opera, he rose to prominence with Saheed Balogun's film 'Omo Orita.'
He has remained a force to be reckoned with in the Yoruba film industry ever since. He never saw what he was doing as something that might be beneficial later on. Among the films in which he has appeared are Arokan, Baba Masoko, Baba Mario, Gelede, Opolo, Sagba di were, and Baba Kondison. In 2016, he released a track titled 'Olongbo' as a singer.
An Ikeja Special Offences Court convicted Olanrewaju James, aka Baba Ijesha, of sexually abusing a 14-year-old minor on Thursday. Since his arrest and arraignment in June 2021, Baba Ijesha's rape trial has lasted more than a year. Baba Ijesha has been embroiled in a tumultuous rape trial since April 22, 2022, for allegedly sexually assaulting Princess' 14-year-old foster daughter. In a two-hour ruling on Thursday, Judge Oluwatoyin Taiwo found Baba Ijesha guilty of indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, and attempted sexual assault.
He was sentenced to 16 years in jail concurrently by the judge. He was found guilty of four of six offenses; two of the crimes carry a five-year sentence, while the other two have a three-year sentence. His 16-year prison sentence will run consecutively. This means that the actor will be imprisoned for five years.
Mrs Taiwo, on the other hand, discharged and acquitted him of counts one and six, which were sexual assault by penetration and attempted sexual assault by penetration, respectively. Between 2013 and 2014, Baba Ijesha was found guilty of indecent treatment and sexual assault on a juvenile.
The prosecution successfully proved counts two and four, that he indecently placed her on his lap and massaged his penis on her body, according to the court. He was also convicted of four more offenses. Seven years later, he was accused of indecently touching the same girl and sexually assaulting her by massaging her body and sucking her fingers.
However, the judge found him not guilty of count one, in which he is accused of sexually assaulting the kid with his car key seven years ago. In addition, he was found not guilty of count 6, in which he was accused of attempted sexual assault by penetration during another interaction with the juvenile in April 2021.
