To make up for the disturbance in the academic calendar, Allotey Jacobs has urged the government to replace the teachers on strike with unemployed recent graduates.
Pre-tertiary teachers went on strike on Monday, July 4, calling for a 20 percent rise in the cost-of-living allowance (COLA). Additionally, labor unions have warned to start taking similar industrial action on Tuesday, July 19. The State officials in charge of resolving the unions' issues met with them in order to reach a mutually agreeable resolution to the most recent events, but the unions have refused to end their strike.
Because of this, according to Allotey Jacobs, the government should take advantage of the situation by hiring jobless graduates to fill the void left by the strike by teachers.
It would be extremely beneficial, he continued, "if we hired the 1 million jobless graduates to start teaching while the teacher unions are bargaining with the government."
However, he urged the unions to rethink their choice, stating "I beg them to understand that doing morally correct at the wrong moment is just as bad as acting improperly. Now is the moment for us to brag about the fact that we are Ghanaians and pledge our support for you in improving the situation despite any shortcomings you may have." Allotey Jacobs, a social analyst, presented these suggestions on the morning program on Peace FM.
Allotey Jacobs, a former Central Region Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has admitted that he wasn't expelled from the organization. Mr. Jacobs stated that he resigned about two weeks ago in response to a letter that was published in the media regarding his expulsion from the NDC. "About two weeks ago, I declared that I was quitting the party. I've left the NDC, he admitted to Evans Mensa on Joy. The NDC claimed in a statement that they had expelled him due to his misconduct and anti-party activities. The statement was signed by Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the party's general secretary. The Functional Executive Committee of the NDC considered the report and recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee on the case of misconduct and anti-party behavior brought against you, Mr. Allotey Jacob, in accordance with articles 48(1)(b) and 8(b) of the NDC Constitution, at our meeting on Wednesday, March 17. Parts of the statement stated that the committee's report, which is attached for your review, "found you guilty of the said allegations of misconduct and anti-party conduct and recommended, among other things, your immediate expulsion from the party."
