Parts of the Volta area have also experienced a hailstorm after Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, did, and internet users have used social media to record their experiences. Earlier, a starrfm article stated that on Saturday, February 25, 2023, numerous areas of the Ashanti Region witnessed the spectacle of several minutes of ice pellets raining amid a strong downpour.
The ice crystals, some of which were large enough to classify as hail, fell so steadily that people were forced to park their cars in secure locations or seek out the closest shelter, unsure of any potential risk. Yet based on the experiences of people from the Volta region, it appears that the phenomena has occurred across the nation. Twitter users who shared footage of the hailstorm in Hohoe and other locations in the Volta area provided a description of the incident. Also posted were several images showing the ice crystals that had accumulated on the ground during the downpour.
Why hailstorms occur
According to study, during thunderstorms, ice drops can also fall in addition to rainfall. Hail is the name for the ice, and it can form even in mild weather, according to a Scied.UCAR.ed article. Little bits of ice may grow high up in a storm cloud due to the extreme cold, and the storm cloud's internal winds may cause the ice to whirl. Hail enlarges when it collides with cold water droplets because the water freezes onto the ice.
The hail eventually becomes so large and weighty that it hits the ground. It is also said that hail can be the size of peas. A large hail can be the size of a grapefruit and destructive. It’s heavy enough to dent cars and break windshields when it falls.
