On February 1, 2023, G/CPL Emmanuel Duah, 46, appeared before a Ho Circuit Court and pleaded not guilty to the allegation of defilement. The accused is on trial for allegedly defiling a class five student, now 14, on September 29, 2021, in a yet-to-be-commissioned police station in Ave-Xevi, Akatsi North District, while on duty there. The court heard that the accused, a police officer known as Bob Marley, asked the victim, who had gone to fetch rain water from a silver basin in front of the police station, to go buy him water, which the victim declined, insisting on first informing her parent before running the errand for the accused. The accused "then snatched the basin from her and violently held her hands, covered her mouth, and led her into one of the rooms inside the police station and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her," the court was informed. The prosecution also told the court that in a caution statement taken at the Tongu Division's Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Sogakope when he was first arrested, G/CPL Emmanuel Duah admitted that "he held the hand and touched the breast of the victim," but denied having sex with her. In the case docket, the prosecution has subsequently filed the weighing card and a medical report of the tests performed on the victim the night of the occurrence. After hearing the accused's plea, the judge granted him GHS50,000 bail with two sureties, one of whom must be a public servant. He is scheduled to return to court on February 22, 2023.
