George Afriyie, an experienced football administrator, has shared his thoughts on why Thomas Partey sometimes struggles to perform at his best for the Black Stars. In an interview with 3Sports, Afriyie stated that one of the reasons is that Partey is not always played in the correct position.
He stated, "It is up to the coach how he wants to parade his players. It all depends on who he surrounds himself with. So comparing Partey in Arsenal to Partey in Ghana is difficult because you have to consider the materials around him at Arsenal and compare them to Ghana."Partey was compared to Michael Essien by Afriyie, who stated that what Essien did for Chelsea was not the same as what he did for the Black Stars, but he delivered when it mattered the most. Partey was also pushed up front in a No.8 or No.10 position in a game against Congo in Brazzaville, where he scored three goals.George Afriyie went on to say, "So, for me, it is the way we position him and assign him roles. Partey has always expressed a desire and demonstrated a commitment to playing for Ghana."Partey has recently come under fire from Ghanaians for underperforming in his last few Black Stars assignments. However, he will have the opportunity to redeem himself in the upcoming doubleheader encounter of the AFCON qualifiers against Angola.
