Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is well renowned for his charitable and selfless deeds, but he also has a reputation for believing in keeping many of these initiatives quiet. One would have anticipated Dr. Bawumia to wax lyrical and gloat about such a historic feat at the facility's commissioning on Friday after completing a spectacular refurbishment of the Kumasi Central Mosque. Instead, it was others, such as Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, who praised the Vice President for his contributions to Kumasi.
When it came time for Dr. Bawumia to speak, he was obviously moved by the compliments he had had, particularly from the Kumasi Central Mosque Committee and the Asantehene.
The vice president insisted that his involvement was God's will and thanked God for providing the well so he could start the great project.
"I am incredibly appreciative to the All-Powerful Allah for giving me the insight, direction, and resolve to be able to take on this significant job. When I visited the mosque in 2020 and realized it need urgent care, I felt moved by the Almighty Allah "said Dr. Bawumia.
"God constructs his own house; as for mosques. He never does it alone; instead, "added the Vice President.
One of the nation's oldest mosques is the Kumasi Central Mosque.
The mosque once held 3000 people, but it has since been rebuilt and increased to hold 7000 people. It also has other facilities attached to it, including a conference room with a capacity of 500 people, an expanded ablution area, offices for the imams and Zongo Chiefs, and a two-bedroom apartment for visitors.
