The Russian Embassy in Accra has disputed some of the statements made by US Vice President Kamala Harris during her three-day visit to Ghana.
The specific comments were about food security issues in relation to the Russia-Ukraine war, with Harris allegedly accusing Russia of causing a situation in which grain exports were restricted.
The Embassy tweeted a photo describing Harris' comments as false and stating what they claim are Russia's grain supply facts.
"The recent visit of US Vice President Kamala Harris to Ghana hasn't gone without another portion of anti-Russian fakes that do not stand a simple fact-checking," they wrote in their tweet.
According to Kamala, "in terms of Russia's unprovoked war in Ukraine. There have been a number of global consequences, including in the United States. It specifically relates to the prevalence of our ability to have access to certain foods, and grain in particular has been a global issue." The information provided by the Embassy FACT: European officials acknowledged that Ukraine has already supplied 53 million tonnes of grain and other food products - its annual export amount (for comparison: 54.9 million tonnes in the 2019-2020 season, 44.9 million tonnes in 2020-2021).
