Justice Alexander Graham, the Supervising High Court Judge in Bolgatanga who was under danger of death and under attack at his home, has escaped and resigned from his position.
This comes one week after he found two people guilty of contempt.
Several death threats and an assault at his home led him to decide to leave his job station.
However, it is unknown when Justice Alexander Graham would resume hearing cases at Bolgatanga's High Court Two.
Among the 10 new justices appointed to the High Court and sworn in in July 2022 were Justice Graham, a Circuit Court judge in Bolgatanga.
He took over the High Court Two, which had been vacant since the absence of a judge for some time.
Graphic Online is aware that since beginning his employment at the High Court, he has often received phone calls and texts threatening his life from unidentified individuals.
According to sources at the court, certain unidentified people occasionally call the Presiding Judge to caution him about some of the cases now ongoing at the High Court Two.
One of the sources claims that Justice Graham frequently received calls from individuals cautioning him to exercise caution on mining and chieftaincy matters that were currently before the court.
According to the source, "once, someone called him and threatened to kill him if he did not have a favorable decision from his case, which was on the court's docket. According to information acquired, there were periodic shootings in the nighttime area outside Justice Graham's home a few weeks ago by unidentified intruders, apparently to terrorize him.
The police patrol team was soon made aware of the situation, and by the time they arrived, the attackers had fled. On March 13, 2023, at night, a group of people surrounded Justice Graham's home and attacked him by throwing stones at it. The following morning (Wednesday morning) around 10:30 am, Justice Graham fled the area for safety to Accra.
Although several cases were scheduled for hearings on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, Justice Graham's absence disappointed the clients and attorneys.
Two people were found guilty by the High Court Two of seeking to sway the trial judge on Friday, March 10, 2023. Naab Nyakora Mantii, the Chief of Baare, and Richard Sunday Yinbil were found guilty of contempt after entering guilty pleas.
They were cited for contempt when they earlier told Justice Graham in his chamber that they were dispatched a chief in their area to ask him to his palace to address some mining related cases before the court
The two were found guilty of contempt by Justice Graham, who also required them to sign a six-month bond promising to behave themselves.
