A 24-year-old business driver has been condemned to nine months in prison for gnawing the fingers of a Cop while opposing capture. Ebenezer Nkoom pleaded guilty to 13 charges brought against him by the Assin-Fosu District Court, including causing harm, unlawful harm, resisting arrest, and other traffic violations.At the Court, which was headed by Mr. Abdul Majeed Illiasu, he begged for leniency.Chief Inspector Gilbert Ayongo stated in his presentation of the case's details that the complainants, Constable Sophia Essel and General Constable Samuel Ayamba, observed the offender driving a Hyundai Atos taxicab with the registration number CR 1157-20.The investigator said the convict halted at an un-assigned spot to get travelers without sensible thought to other street clients.The driver was warned by the police not to pick up passengers there and asked to leave when they came up to him.However, he stood firm and insisted that he would continue to pick up passengers from that location until all other drivers who had done the same would be detained by the police.Chief Inspector Ayongo reported the convict's return to the same location, which led to his arrest, just an hour later.The inmate drove the officers to an unspecified location and attempted to flee while the officers joined him in his vehicle to be driven to the Regional MTTD.
The prosecutor stated that while he was being re-arrested, he resisted and bit General Constable Ayamba's finger, "inflicting severe injuries on his hand."A motorcyclist who saw the incident grabbed the injured police officer quickly and pursued the criminal, who drove the vehicle into a bush nearby, abandoned it, and fled.The Central North Regional MTTD Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Wonder Lumor, received the report from the two officers and dispatched two plain-clothes police officers and CID officers to the scene.The prosecutor stated that about an hour later, the convict and two others emerged with him, and he was taken into custody to assist with the investigation.A thorough examination of the vehicle and documents revealed that he had not validated his driver's license since February 1, 2022, and that he was operating a commercial vehicle at an unlicensed age of 24, rather than the legally permitted age of 25 or older.
