A self-styled man of God in his early 50s is being held by the Akyem Oda Divisional Police Command in the Eastern Region for reportedly burning to death a married woman with anointing oil. Pastor Isaac Okyeam, also known as Pastor Owusu, has been arrested in connection with the death of Mrs. Ama Nkansah Appiah, 42, who died last Tuesday, May 02, 2023, at the Korle-bu teaching hospital in Accra after being transferred from the Akyem Oda Government Hospital after sustaining bodily burns suspected to have been caused by the said man of God.

According to Adwoa Gloria, the deceased's junior sister, on Tuesday 25th April, 2023, her sister, as usual, visited the home of Pastor Isaac Okyeam, her supposed spiritual father, at Akyem Asawase, a suburb of Akyem Awisa in the Birim-South district of the Eastern Region, where he practices his ministry, for consultations. Adwoa Gloria went on to say that her sister returned home later that day, scorched and in critical condition, despite her husband and sisters' best efforts to persuade her to reveal the reason of her dilemma.

She was rushed to and admitted to the Oda government hospital, but was later transferred to the Korle-bu teaching hospital in Accra as her health worsened, resulting in her tragic death. Determined to find out what caused her sister's death, she stated the family's subsequent discoveries pointed to her visit to the pastor as the source of the burns.

"I took her dress and it reeked of the oil used by pastors, which piqued the husband's interest that the burns were not caused by gas as previously suspected, but rather by a visit to a pastor; unfortunately, she died on Tuesday," Adwoa Gloria revealed.

Pastor Isaac Okyeam was challenged by the deceased's relatives, who suspected him of being involved in Adwoa's killing, but he refuted the claim.

"I led them to the location, and it was clear that my sister had suffered burns at his place," she explained. "Her footprints were all over the place, there was a bucket containing a mixture of oils of various types, candles, and a partially burned mattress."

Based on these, the aforementioned man of God was apprehended to assist the police in their investigations.

The pastor also suffered burns

The presence of obvious burns on Pastor Okyeam's right hand and leg adds to his suspicions about the victim's death.

Further investigations, according to Adwoa Gloria, have revealed that the pastor, upon her sister's visit to his place, applied a spiritual oil during the course of their engagement, which inexplicably caught fire, resulting in injuries to both of them, which later led to her sister's death. The police investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
