Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the current Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, has been handed a second five-year term to oversee the congregation. A report on the Cophq.org website of the Church detailed his re-election. According to the article, Apostle Eric Nyamekye's re-election is historic because he received 1,255 "Yes" votes out of the 1262 total votes cast, or 99.45%, making it clear that he would win. On Thursday, May 4, 2023, during the Church's 46th General Council Meetings, Apostle Nyamekye and other officials were re-elected. After winning 98% of the votes voted to become the Church's 6th Chairman in 2018, Apostle Nyamekye immediately put into motion a five-year strategic vision called "Vision 2023," with the underlying subject of "Possessing the Kingdom."
The Church of Pentecost has advanced significantly in ministry, as well as on the local, regional, and international levels, thanks to the exemplary leadership of Apostle Nyamekye. The Church has gained 1,151,723 souls for Christ and increased its global membership by 29.1%, from 3,257,699 to 4,203,077. Of them, 782,578 people have been baptized in water between 2019 and 2022. The Church of Pentecost built 57 water facilities over the same period of his presidency and spent GHS 8,132,040.65 on member health care and GHS 23,313,518.93 on educational support. Apostle Nyamekye’s administration has also initiated various social development projects in deprived communities and institutions across the country, including the construction of reformation centers for the Ghana Prisons Service, where the Church has completed and handed over two out of the five facilities to the Service, while the three others are at various stages of construction. Overall, Apostle Nyamekye's first time as Chairman of The Church of Pentecost has been impressive, and his re-election as such encourages hope for what the Lord has in store for His church over the following five years. The Church also received a national award from H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, in recognition of its crucial contribution to the effort to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the Ukraine-Russian war, the Church also played a significant role in the evacuation of some stranded citizens of Ukraine to Ghana.
Profile of Apostle Eric Nyamekye
Apostle Eric Nyamekye was ordained in 1991 and has since served in a variety of capacities, including as a missionary in South Africa. He was a member of the church's Executive Council for five (5) years prior to being elected to the position of Chairman of The Church of Pentecost. He also participated in the church's youth ministry, first as a patron and then as a member of the National Executive Committee.
He has a Master of Arts degree in Religious Studies from the University of Ghana, Legon, a Diploma in Human Resource Management from the Institute of Commercial Management in the UK, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Applied Theology. Apostle Nyamekye and Mary have six children together.
