Legendary rap musician Reggie Rockstone, who refers the Ghanaian rap sensation Black Sherif as his son, advised him to establish a distinctive name for his musical genre.
Mr. Rockstone commented, "When you listen to my kid Black Sherif, he doesn't perform Afrobeats, and his music is also not quite Hiplife; he is obviously in his own lane."
"It is evident how the world [is receiving him]," he remarked. He continued, "When people are composing music in this manner, I'm moving in the opposite direction." As if to illustrate how difficult the route of a trendsetter is, he stated, "Slowly, you [the audience] will realize it. That is also how I move. It is true."
Black Sherif is "extraordinary. The prolific hitmaker told Accra 100.5 FM's 'Ayekoo Ayekoo' mid-morning show presenter Nana Romeo, "He is staying in his lane."
Reggie Rockstone described how, upon his return to Ghana from the diaspora in the 1990s, he distinguished himself from older musicians such as Daddy Lumba, for whom he is credited as the ultimate pioneer of the Hiplife genre of Ghana, a fusion of the renowned Highlife and Hiphop genres.
"His style is so unique, and he's done it repeatedly," he said, returning to Blacko, Black Sherif's alias. Suggested the following titles for the young artist's trendy style: "Vibe-Sherif, Sherif-Vibe, Sherif-Sound, Sound-of-Sherif, and Sound-of-Sherif," and then, as if inspired, screamed, "Villain-Sounds, the title of his album." Regarding the naming once more, the rap icon and businessman advised Black Sherif to "forget the term life. If you add vitality to the name, it will seem trite.
"So many methods, but the sound is unique. "I don't know who is producing the music, but his production style and cadence are really distinctive," he thought.
In fact, I am a huge fan, the Grand Papa indicated thoughtfully.
Reggie Rockstone argued that naming his musical genre "would be a good idea based on what happened to me" and cautioned: "When you do it, provide documentation so that 30 years from now, after all your hard work, no one can claim you are not the inventor. Are you aware?"
