Marie-Claire Rupio Atsu, Christian Atsu's wife, paid tribute to her late husband at his pre-burial service on the State House forecourt. Mrs. Atsu could not hold back her tears as she climbed the podium to read the tribute to the late footballer's sister, Christiana Atsupie Twasam.

"In front of me today are the mortal remains of a beloved father and husband. I had no idea that God was going to call you home that morning. In real life, I adore you. I do the same in death. Losing you breaks my heart. You did not travel alone. "A piece of me went with you." "Your love is still my guide, even if I can't see you. You are always on my mind.On February 6, 2023, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck parts of Turkey and Syria, killing the footballer.
